Large size or miniatures, the Peranakan Kamcheng or covered jar is a must for Nyonya households. These wide-mouth jars have a characteristic low collar and are capped with a dome-shaped lid – with a sitting guardian dog (a mystical lion dog) on top of the larger jars. There are four small knobs or animal masks on the sides of its bulging body serving as supports for handles. The tapering base is often marked with stylised lotus flowers, while the collar is embellished with ruyi symbols. The clearly identifiable Phoenix medallion completes the Peranakan touch.

Miniatures on the other hand are decorated with Peony blossoms and vines with a small longevity peach on the lid.
